Nerur: May 6-7, 2017

Kumbhabhishekas & Samadhi Shrine of Sri Sadashiva Brahmendra

ARRIVAL

In the evening of May 6, 2017, the Jagadgurus were welcomed reverentially upon arrival at the Agrahara of Nerur, one of the Samadhi sites of the renowned Jivanmukta, Sri Sadashiva Brahmendra. The Jagadgurus arrived at the newly constructed Sringeri Shankara Math in the Nerur Agrahara.

Dhuli Pada Puja was performed by Sri Sridhar Chityala. After Veda Ghosha and Swagata Patrikas in Sanskrit and Tamil were read and submitted to the Jagadgurus, Sri Rangarajan spoke on the occasion mentioning that the 33rd Acharya of Sringeri, Pratah-smaraneeya Jagadguru Sri Sri Sacchidananda Shivabhinava Nrisimha Bharati Mahaswamij by His Yogic powers had had Darshan of the great Jivamukta Sri Sadashiva Brahmendra. Ever since, Nerur shot into prominence and the Sringeri-Nerur bond has been special. Explaining the relationship between the devotees at Nerur and Sringeri, Sri Rangarajan mentioned that during the 56th Vardhanti of Sri Mahasannidhanam, Padukas of Sri Mahasannidhanam had been brought to Nerur and devotees had offered homage. During His 2012 Vijaya Yatra to Nerur, Sri Mahasannidhanam had performed Bhumi Puja for the Sringeri Shankara Math at Nerur. The main hall of the Math was soon constructed and since 2014, the hall has been used every year for the Aradhana celebrations (on Vaishakha Shukla Dashami) of Sri Sadashiva Brahmendra. Sri Rangarajan said that it was the grace of Sri Mahasannidhanam that the construction of the Sringeri Shankara Math has taken place at the appropriate time and offered Pranams to the Jagadgurus.

Thereafter, the Ubhaya Jagadgurus blessed the devout gathering with Anugraha Bhashanams.

ANUGRAHA BHASHANAMS

Sri Sannidhanam in His Anugraha Bhashanam quoted the Upanishadic statement “तस्मादात्मज्ञं ह्यर्चयेद् भूतिकामः” that worship and service to Jnanis fetches supreme welfare. Our land has seen many Jnanis from time immemorial including Bhagavan Veda Vyasa, Maharshi Shuka and Jagadguru Sri Adi Shankaracharya. Sri Sannidhanam said that since the times of His Parapara Guru, it has been the practice of the Sringeri Jagadgurus to come to Nerur and offer worship at the Adhishtanam of Sri Sadashiva Brahmendra.

Sri Mahasannidhanam in His Anugraha Bhashanam underlined the importance of Nishkama Karma. Sri Bhagavan Himself says

यज्ञार्थात्कर्मणोऽन्यत्र लोकोऽयं कर्मबन्धनः ।
तदर्थं कर्म कौन्तेय मुक्तसङ्गः समाचर ॥

When actions are offered to Ishwara, it frees one from bondage. Hence our Sankalpa must be to perform the Karma as an offering to Ishwara – ईश्वरार्थं करिष्ये. Otherwise it results in bondage.

Sri Mahasannidhanam expressed joy at the coming up of the Sringeri Shankara Math in Nerur and blessed Sri Sridhar Chityala and family.

After the public function, Sri Vidyashankara Saraswati Swamiji of Nerur addressed the gathering and spoke on the greatness of the Sringeri Jagadguru Parampara.

Later, Sri Mahasannidhanam performed the Sharada Chandramoulishwara Puja.

POOJA AT THE ADHISHSTANAM OF SRI SADASHIVA BRAHMENDRA

At about 10:30 am, Sri Mahasannidhanam and Sri Sannidhanam were reverentially received with Poornakumbha Swagata at the entrance of the Adhishtanam of Sri Sadashiva Brahmendra. The Jagadgurus first had Darshan of Kashi Vishwanathar and Vishalakshi. Then, the Jagadgurus arrived at the Adhishtanam of Sri Sadashiva Brahmendra located at the base of a Bilva Vriksha. The Jagadgurus offered Pushparchana to the chanting of Sri Sadashivendra Pancharatna Stotram and Sri Sadashivendra Stava and then performed Mahamanglarati.

Both the Sadashivendra Pancharatnam and the Sadashivendra Stava, composed by the 33rd Acharya of Sringeri (Jagadguru Sri Sacchidananda Shivabhinava Nrisimha Bharati Mahaswamji) refer to a number of incidents in Sri Brahmendra’s life and describe His state of Jivanmukti. These two hymns have been etched in stone slabs, both in the Sanskrit Devanagari script and in the Tamil script right behind the Adhishstanam.
