Jagadgurus in Ramanathapuram

ARRIVAL

Jagadguru Shankaracharya Sri Sri Bharati Tirtha Mahaswamiji arrived at Ramanathapuram on the evening of May 18, 2017 to a royal reception with Poornakumbha offered by Rani Smt. R.P.K. Rajeswari Nachiyar of the Ramanathapuram Samsthanam and Raja Sri Kumaran Sethupathy. The Jagadgurus had Darshan at the temple of Rajarajeshwari in the premises. Dhuli Pada Puja was performed by the Rani.

In His Anugraha Bhashanam, the Jagadguru spoke about the Guru-Shishya relationship between Sringeri Sharada Peetham and the Ramnad Samsthanam.

Sri Sannidhanam then performed the Sharada Chandramoulishwara Puja in the centuries old royal hall, Sri Ramalinga Vilasam. The heritage structure has a number of frescoes and sculptures depicting various events described in the Puranas and the lilas of the Lord. A portrait of the 33rd Acharya of Sringeri, Jagadguru Sri Sacchidananda Shivabhinava Nrisimha Bharati Mahaswamiji also adorns the hall.

Thereafter, Sri Sannidhanam worshipped Goddess Rajarajeshwari in the premises of the Samsthanam.

PUBLIC FUNCTION

The following day, in the public function, organised to honour the Jagadgurus, a Swagata Patrika in Sanskrit was read and submitted to the Jagadgurus. Rani R.P.K. Rajeswari Nachiyar of the Ramanathapuram Samsthanam speaking on the occasion recalled that more than a century ago, the 33rd Acharya of Sringeri, Jagadguru Sri Sacchidananda Shivabhinava Nrisimha Bharati Mahaswamiji was received at Ramanathapuram by the then Maharaja of Ramnad, Sri Bhaskara Sethupati. The Mahaswamiji had noticed the ferocious aspect of the deity, Rajarajeshwari in the premises of the palace, and had made Her benign by consecrating a Srichakra and reinstalling the Goddess. The Mahaswamiji also put an end to the large number of animal sacrifices that were taking place in the temple at that time. The Rani mentioned that the royal family has always sought the blessings and guidance of the Sringeri Jagadgurus, offered her Pranams and prayed that the tradition continue with the blessings of the Jagadgurus.

Sri Mahasannidhanam in His Anugraha Bhashanam spoke about the association between Rameswaram and Sringeri and mentioned that when going towards Rameswaram, it has been a tradition for the Acharya of Sringeri to come to Ramnad, receive the honours offered by the Samsthanam.  

After granting Darshan and blessing the devotees later in the day. After blessing the members of the Ramanathapuram Samsthanam, the Jagadgurus proceeded towards Aruppukkottai.
